Week 2 - Apertures

Hello Everyone!

This week I am learning all about how to use my Apertures.  I also just got my new Nikkor 50 MM 1:1.4 lens in and am LOVING it!!!

I am taking the Oh Shoot! class at Jessicasprague.com.

I'm using an open aperture on this one of 1:1.4.  What that does is focus on one image and blurs out the rest.

This one is with a more closed aperture.  I used 1:14 Aperture.

This is also an open aperture of 1:1.8.

What I've also noticed with the closed aperture is that it does make the picture a little darker which is nice for full sunlight but probably not so great for indoors.

  1. These are really good, too, especially the one at the top with the ornaments---the focal point really stands out in that one!!

  3. Great way to compare the difference with the aperatures! I would take that class, but I don't have a DSLR so I wasn't sure how much it would make sense for me. Love Jessica, though, she's awesome!!!

  5. How do you adjust (open/close) your aperture on your DSLR?

I see on both of the Christmas tree ones you mentioned - I used 1:14 Aperture for both...is that right?

  6. Is this class a self-paced class? And is it too late to sign up?

  7. It's not a self-paced class, but the material stays available to you as long as the website is in existence, so you can always go back and catch up anything you missed.

The class is starting its third week, but it usually runs 2-3 times a year, so you can sign up on the website to be notified when the next class starts!

Love the pink ornaments at the top with the open aperture, Robyn!
